International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released a report that states global that the global renewable energy sector created over 500,000 new jobs in 2017, an increase of 5.3 per cent on
According to the report, the renewable energy industry continues to boom. Countries such as China, Brazil, the United States, India, Germany and Japan are the world's largest renewable energy employers and represent more than 70 per cent
of all industry jobs across the globe. China represents 43 per cent
of all renewable energy jobs.
Solar PV is still the largest employer of all renewables technologies, accounting for approximately 3.4 million jobs last year. The data also confirms that China represents two-thirds of all PV jobs globally, which is approximately 2.2 million jobs.
"Renewable energy has become a pillar of low-carbon economic growth for governments all over the world, a fact reflected by the growing number of jobs created in the sector," said Adnan Z. Amin, director-general of IRENA
"The data also underscores an increasingly regionalised picture, highlighting that in countries where attractive policies exist, the economic, social and environmental benefits of renewable energy are most evident."
