The Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy has completed construction on the first nuclear reactor in the 1,400MW atomic power plant in Barakah, UAE.
A consortium of the Korea Electric Power Corporation was awarded with the project to develop four nuclear power stations in the UAE at a deal value of $40 billion. This made the company the world’s sixth largest nuclear power plant exporter.
The reactors themselves are advanced power reactors 1400, which are the same as those in the Shigori Plants in Korea.
1,600 Korean workers are currently staying at the construction sites and a further 110,000 jobs over the next 10 years are estimated to be created.
