EDL, the state utility of Lebanon will roll out 1.2 million smart meter units from next month.
The $200 million programme is focused on re-engineering and expanding the network, as well as improving overall customer services and help improve the company’s revenue losses.
EDL has selected three distribution service providers and awarded them with four year contracts to provide all network and customer services including deploying an average of 400,000 smart meters customers on successful completion of pilot tests.
These providers include France’s ErDF, Echelon and Sagem, amongst others. Between them, these providers have commissioned approximately 4,000 meters across 25 sites in the country since August 2013.
The full rollout with include 14,000 transformer meters, 1.2 million customer meters and 800 feeder meters and will result in savings of more than $1 billion across four years according to plans.
