Lockheed Martin to launch new R&D facility in Australia

Global security and aerospace firm, Lockheed Martin has invested A$13 million to build the Science Technology Engineering Leadership and Research Laboratory (STELaR Lab) in Melbourne, Australia. 

The lab will is scheduled to open in 2017 and will allow researchers to explore several fields, including hypersonics, autonomy, robotics and command, control, communications, computing. Intelligence, surveillance.

This long-term investment will assist the country with developing its future R&D program and is expected to create jobs for science and technology graduates. 

The Australian state of Victoria's defence sector contributes up to A$8 billion to Victoria's economy every year and currently employs over 7,000 people.
