Oil giants BP and BG Group have both withdrawn workers from Egypt, amidst fears for their safety. In total 160 expatriate staff have been pulled out of the country, with only 40 essential staff remaining in BP’s office in Cairo.
The withdrawal comes after more violence in Egypt, as tens of thousands of people took to the streets in Cairo, following last week’s military coup.
Both companies have insisted that their staff are safe, and that it is merely a precaution. PB have said there has been no impact on production and that it remains “fully committed” to Egypt.
