The Port of Indiana – Mont Vernon set an annual shipping record last year by distributing over 6.6 million tons. This is a new record for the port since it was first opened 40 years ago.
In 2015, the port handled 3,600 barges, 37 rail cars and 160,000 trucks. Increased shipments containing coal, agriculture products and steel were some of the many reasons why cargo volume increased.
“The credit for the record volume rightfully goes to our world-class port companies, without them we would not be enjoying the success we have today,” said Port Director Phil Wilzbacher.
The port generates over $1 billion in total economic activity per year and supports 7,200 total jobs.
