Devon and Cornwall will shortly receive approximately £1 billion of a £7.5 billion rail investment.
Great Western Railways will partner with Network Rail to deliver large scale improvements to the UK’s South West services, says managing director Mark Hopwood.
The plans will include electrification of the main line from London to Bristol and Cardiff, whilst £350 million will be spent on new Hitachi trains and £10 million on the sleeper service.
The new trains will be delivered in 2018 and will have 24 to 26 percent greater capacity.
