Qatar’s unprecedented growth over the past few years has prompted the country to look towards renewable energy sources to sustain the ever increasing energy consumption.
The vast socio-economic development, growing population and industrialisation have all contributed to the rise in demand for energy, which has doubled over the last decade. The country is looking beyond its natural reserves and will take credible measures that reduce the impact of energy use on the environment, help conserve natural resources and boost efficiency.
Qatar is looking to solar power to reach this demand as it offers minimal environmental impact and job creation, and it is leading the GCC region in terms of clean energy.
The country is focusing on further developing its solar capacity through research centres and pilot projects.
