Renewable energy employment rose by 5% in 2015

25 May 2016
According to a report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), over 8 million people were employed worldwide in the renewables sector last year.

A dramatic boom in solar and wind power jobs in the US led to the increase, says Irena.

In the US alone, more than 769,000 people were employed in renewable energy, with jobs in solar and wind growing more than 20% in 2015.

“The continued job growth in the [global] renewable energy sector is significant because it stands in contrast to trends across the energy sector,” said Adnan Amin, Irena’s director general.
