According to a new from the Edison Foundation, a utility-funded think tank, the country installed an impressive 65 million smart meters in 2015 and the figure is project to rise to 70 million in 2016.
The report also predicted smart meter deployments to reach 90 million in 2020.
Edisons data only included meters that can “measure and record electricity usage hourly, or more frequently, and allow for two-way communication between the electric companies and their customers.”
It was also mentioned that Chicago-area Commonwealth Edison has 1.8 million meters delayed out of 4.2 million in the works and New York’s Consolidated Edison is deploying 3.6 million smart meters by 2021.
