Rio Tinto mine in Utah recovers from landslide

15 Oct 2013
Global miner, Rio Tinto has said that it was recovering more quickly than expected from a huge pit wall slide this year that buried equipment and suspended operations at one of its largest mines.

The incident occurred at the Bingham Canyon mine in Utah.

As a result of this bounce back, and flagship Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in Mongolia, the company has forecast a boosted copper output for 2013 as well as posting a record iron ore and coal output in the third quarter. Their third-quarter production report is set to be on track to beat a target of cutting $750m in exploration spending this year.
