Rosatom set to build 2 new Nuclear plants in China

13 Aug 2014
Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear corporation is set to build two nuclear power plant units in China.

The location of the two new plants is yet to be fully confirmed but the city of Harbin, in the north-eastern Heilongjiang province is a probable option, with a delegation from Rosatom set to visit the area to assess the construction site soon.

Although China leads the world’s nuclear new builds, many of its sites are based on the coast, where as Russia has experience in building and operating nuclear power plants inland.

This news follows the two countries’ gas-supply agreement which was signed by both Russia and China’s Presidents in May 2014.

China tops the tally of nuclear projects under construction with 28. Russia follows with nine and India has seven.
