Sellafield Ltd has signed a £500m procurement deal which could potentially generate 1,140 jobs over the next 10 years.
The framework known as the Decommissioning Delivery Partnership (DDP) consists of 12 companies and guarantees that Cumbrian firms will win work from decommissioning. The agreement will include the creation of apprenticeships and work for small- and medium-sized businesses.
Sellafield has explained that this could be the UK’s first public procurement project where community benefits are assured. It has also been revealed that 150 jobs will be offered to candidates who are considered ‘under-represented or disadvantaged’.
