Shell stops its Alaska program to focus on capital efficiency

30 Jan 2014
Royal Dutch Shell has revealed that in 2014 the company will stop its Alaska program and instead will focus on achieving better capital efficiency with new projects and a reduced capital spending.
The reason behind the decision has been cited as the changing landscape and the subsequent change in the company’s expectations and strategy.

With North American natural gas prices remaining low, Shell has revealed plans to focus on restructuring and improving profitability in its North American upstream operations.

Shell’s CEO, Ben van Beurden has said in a company statement that the company’s “overall strategy remains robust, but 2014 will be a year where we are changing emphasis, to improve our returns and cash flow performance.
