Shetland gas fields can supply whole of Scotland

15 Feb 2016

New gas fields off Shetland could fulfil 100% of Scotland’s gas needs, analysts say. Production at the Laggan and Tormore fields has been so high that output could meet the demand across the whole of Scotland.

Collectively, the two new fields will produce enough oil to meet 8% of the UK’s gas needs.

"The scale of these new facilities is absolutely massive - with analysts confirming that these two fields will produce enough to meet 100% of Scotland's gas demand,” said Highlands and Islands MSP, Mike MacKenzie.

“That's good news for Shetland, for Scotland, and for our North Sea industry.”
