31 Oct 2016
Singapore has opened its first national research and development centre for the marine and offshore engineering industry.

The centre will aim to increase local marine and offshore engineering activities and introduce more global partnerships with industry, research institutions and academia. It will also feature a next-generation Deepwater Ocean Basin with stimulation capabilities, such as smart sensing and data analytics.

Professor Chan Eng Soon, chief executive of Tcoms and Provost's Chair Professor at NUS' Faculty of Engineering, comments: "[the centre will] pave the way for the development of intelligent systems that would help transform the marine and offshore engineering industry, especially in the enhancement of efficiency, safety and reliability in harsh environments".
