16 Jan 2017
San Miguel Corporation has announced it will build three 58-megawatt coal-fired electricity power plants, one each for the island groups of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi Tawi.

“We have plans to put up a power plant in Jolo, Sulu as a 58 MW, coal fired CFB (circulating fluidized bed). (There’s) also intention to put up another one in Basilan and also one in Tawi Tawi, all with 58 MW capacity. Right now, NPC (National Power Corp.) supports Jolo, Sulu with 25 MW at P15 per kilowatt hour (kwh),” said SMC president and chief executive officer, Ramon Ang.

NPC and the Power Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) plans to manage the supply of power being distributed by electric cooperatives within the region.

Last year, the company revealed plans to build another set of three coal-fired power plants in Mindanao.
