South Africa’s new laws streamline mining sector

11 Dec 2014
New laws have been introduced to streamline South Africa’s mining sector. The One Environmental System will improve the ease in doing business in the country and continue to enhance South Africa’s competitiveness as a mining investment jurisdiction.

With the new system in place, the minister of mineral resources will be responsible for issuing environmental authorisations and waste management licences for mining and related activities.

Permits can now be issued simultaneously by environmental affairs, mineral resources and water sanitation with a fixed time of a maximum 300 days.
