South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe has spoken out about the importance of the mining sector within the country.
The sector plays a critical role in the country’s economy as well acting as a vital source of investment.
Radebe emphasised the cultural and historical role that the mining sector has played, as well as the economic development of the country that can be attributed to mining too.
Reports show that mining commodities accounted for 46% of exports in the fourth quarter of 2013, and this is only set to continue.
The role of mining across South Africa has been outlined in the National Development Plan, and a key focus and theme of discussion is how the role of women within the industry will develop over the coming years.
