Southern to acquire 299MW wind farm project in Oklahoma, USA

Southern Co. have announced that it is acquiring a 299MW wind project in Oklahoma, USA.

The project will be the company’s largest renewable electric generating plant to date.

The Atlanta based company’s subsidiary, Southern Power will acquire the Kay Wind facility from Apex Clean Energy. Apex announced the construction loan for the project was $397million.

The wind project will be able to supply electricity to 100,000 homes, using 130 wind turbines constructed by Siemens Energy.

Southern Power has been growing its renewable energy generating business, reaching nearly a dozen solar projects.

The deal is expected to be finalised later this year.
