Spencer Ogden are proud to have a talented triathlete in our London team, and with an exciting time ahead for him, we thought we would share his story on what it takes to be at the top of your game – both in sport and work.
Richard Peel has been with Spencer Ogden for several years, establishing himself in the London office as one of our most successful consultants. Working within the Power sector, Rich has built a name for himself within the energy recruitment industry alongside developing his sporting career.
Over the past few years, Rich has been training incredibly hard to become one of the UK’s leading amateur triathletes. 2015 will see him take part in the World Triathlon Championships which will be held in Chicago next month. After several intense qualifying events earlier this year, Rich will be representing Great Britain in the Olympic distance event in the hopes of coming in the top three out of several hundred competitors and securing a medal in his 30-35 age group.
Rich’s move into the world of triathlons was a relatively late one, following years of running and a naturally competitive streak! Training hard on the bike, he developed his skills quickly and became a force to be reckoned with – consistently setting the fastest bike splits on most of the triathlons he enters.
Swimming however tested his determination and became a big focus to develop. Heading to Canary Wharf’s innovative pool with 360 degree cameras, Rich was able to perfect his technique and as a result 2014 saw him achieve fantastic success at a number of prestigious Triathlon events, kick starting his dominance in his age group within the UK.
Already working full time at Spencer Ogden, Rich takes it to the next level with his training and commitment, fitting intense training sessions wherever he can. He trains 15 hours a week – setting 5:30am alarms, twice daily training sessions, running up to 50km a week on average.
Rich says, "Spencer Ogden have been great during the training process - supporting me with flexible working hours and sponsorship to get me to Chicago. It's really good working for a company who are willing and able to support my extra-curricular activities."
Rich is a great example of a focused, driven individual with incredible talent and the hard work to back it up – both in the office and in his races. And Rich isn’t stopping just yet – next year he has set his sights on the Ironman 70.3 World Championships!
Good luck to Rich in Chicago from everyone at Spencer Ogden!
