Statoil makes oil and gas discoveries on Askja prospects in the North Sea

02 Jan 2014
Statoil and its partner Det norske oljeselskap has announced that they have made oil and gas discoveries on their Askja prospects in the North Sea.

Statoil has estimated the total volumes in the Askja West and Askja East areas to be in the range of 19 to 40 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent.

Statoil’s vice president for exploration for the North Sea said in a statement that the area is “a highly prolific petroleum basin that has delivered new discoveries consistently for over four decades.

We are convinced that there are still attractive opportunities both in near-field exploration and in more material growth plays."
