The demand for superyachts has more than doubled over the past decade, with approximately 5,000 vessels currently sailing globally.
The world’s largest superyacht, the “Azzam” is worth a staggering $600m and is 160 metres long. The vessel is also equipped with two helipads, two swimming pools, a cinema, mini submarine and bulletproof glass.
Not only is the Azzam the biggest superyacht, it is also the fastest. Expected to reach speeds of more 35 mph, the vessel is one of the most remarkable achievements of the yachting industry.
Superyachts of this size and budget attract many specialists which are often chosen by the project engineer. The process of designing and building superyachts is complex and incorporates many traditional skills including carpentry, plastering, welding. Candidates looking to find work in the sector frequently find themselves in an advantageous position if they have previous shipyard experience.
