Ericsson plans to launch a pilot project that will use 5G technology to improve productivity and safety in the Swedish mining industry.
Ericsson will be collaborating with several Swedish companies on the project which will be called the Pilot for Industrial Mobile Communication in mining. It is part of the 5G for Sweden program announced in March this year.
According to Ericsson, the aim is to find solutions that can be applied to an industry that has traditionally been seen as having a challenging operational environment.
The first phase of the project will be for the 5G development system. This consists of new and existing technologies and will be used to remotely control a Volvo truck used for transporting ore in a mine operated by Boliden.
