Thailand’s cabinet has approved two Bangkok railway lines worth $1.26 billion. The projects are among 20 other infrastructure plans worth over $40 billion that the government will implement before 2018.
The 25.9 km rail lines will connect Bangkok to the city’s suburbs and will take approximately three years to build.
Thailand’s transport minister has welcomed the new infrastructure projects, and has said it will provide a timely boost for Thailand as it seeks to revive its sluggish economy.
"Once this project is completed, it will change the lives of people in Bangkok," said Kobsak Pootrakool, vice minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.
