The debate on shale gas in Britain continues

04 Jul 2013

Last week the Government published the British Geological Survey’s estimate of how much shale gas is stored beneath our feet in the UK.

The prediction is that 1,3000 trillion cu ft of natural gas is stored within the shale rock deep beneath northern England, and so the debate on the future of shale within the UK continues to be at the forefront of news and discussions.

This amount of shale gas has the potential to transform the UK’s energy provision, as extracting only 10% of northern England’s resources would provide the UK with enough gas for more than 40 years.

With a market value of almost £1 trillion, utilising our shale gas resources is one that has sparked much debate. 11 of Europe’s leading energy industry experts came together to discuss the future of shale, and you can watch highlights from this debate here.
