U.S. becomes world’s largest producer of oil

12 Jun 2015

The United States has become the biggest oil and natural gas producer in the world according to a report by Bloomberg this week.

U.S. oil production rose to a record 1.6 million barrels a day last year, according to BP’s Statistical Review of World energy. Natural gas output also soared, which pushed America ahead of Russia as a producer of the two combined.

In the U.S. the economy has been significantly affected by the boom in oil and gas, and manufacturing has returned to the country. America produced about 90% of the energy it consumed last year.
