The UK government has approved EDF’s Hinkley Point C power plant project.
EDF has publicised that the project will create more than 25,000 jobs, with China pledging to inject a further £6 billion.
“The decision of the British Government to approve the construction of Hinkley Point C marks the relaunch of nuclear in Europe,” said Jean-Bernard Levy, chief executive of EDF. “This decision demonstrates confidence in the EPR technology and in the world-renowned expertise of the French nuclear industry.”
According to government officials, Hinkley Point C project will generate 7 percent of Britain’s electricity needs for 60 years.
