UK Government supports tidal power projects

16 Dec 2014
With the UK’s aging energy infrastructure, the government is serious about exploring the potential of generating energy from tidal power schemes, including lagoons.

At the Policy Forum for Wales energy policy seminar, Baroness Randerson Parliamentary Under Secretary of State of the Wales Office said that the UK is the world’s foremost centre for tidal power development.

With the development of promising advanced tidal project, Swansea Bay tidal lagoon, Baroness Randerson sees great potential for tidal lagoon power that could eventually provide the UK with 8% of the country’s electricity needs.

Following the announcement, closer discussion are intended to be organised to explore the project further to ensure that tidal energy becomes a mainstream part of the energy mix.
