UK Nuclear sector receives £13m fund

A new £13m fund to develop innovative technologies for nuclear power stations has been announced in the UK.

Business Secretary, Vince Cable said, “We want to make the most of this growing sector,” providing a long term security that has not previously been in place.

The aim is develop a strong innovative and sustainable supply chain to serve both national and global markets. Programmes covered in the fund include new construction techniques and remote monitoring.

The nuclear industry is poised for huge growth, with approximately £930bn of investment planned to build new reactors globally. The UK is playing a key part in this growth, as the first nuclear power station since 1995 set for construction.
