UK wind farm reaches construction phases

07 May 2015

Beinn Ghrideag, the UK’s largest community-owned wind farm, has successfully completed construction this week following technical advisory support from leading renewable energy consultancy, SgurrEnergy.

This milestone has seen 3MW Enercon wind turbines installed onsite, and once in production, the wind farm is expected to provide energy to power 6,000 homes.

Located on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland’s Outer Hebridean Islands, the wind farm is expected to generate more than £36m for the community over the next 25 years.

SgurrEnergy will lead the ongoing operational support for five years to get the most out of the wind farm’s energy production and ensure the best return for the community. The company’s involvement in the project demonstrates the success of large scale community wind farm projects when planned and executed correctly.
