World powers have today reached a deal with Iran on nuclear power.
The deal limits Iranian nuclear activity in return for lifting the international economic sanctions, giving UN nuclear inspectors extensive but not automatic access to sites within Iran.
The deal has been driven by a desire to scale back Iran’s sensitive nuclear activities to ensure no nuclear weapons are built. Iran has always insisted that its’ nuclear work is peaceful, and so a drop in international sanctions will now open a “new chapter” in Iran’s relations with the world, according to Hassan Rouhani, the country’s President.
Although the details have yet to be officially released, sanctions in areas including oil and gas trading, financial transactions, aviation and shipping will be lifted.
