Position Title: Senior/Principal Project Engineer, BESS Projects

Supervisor: Director, Technical Projects

Location: Remote (USA)

The client seeks an experienced Project Engineer, BESS Projects to manage, optimize design, and lead the execution of BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects. As a Senior/Principal Project Engineer, you will collaborate with project managers, construction managers, customers, outside vendors, AHJ, and consultants. As the client rapidly grows and delivers on more contracts worldwide, you will help document and build scalable processes, technology, and products.

What you will do

  • Be responsible for project execution, which requires a thorough understanding of scope, schedule, stakeholders, and keeping all parties in sync.
  • Identify gaps in scope and responsibility and work with stakeholders to address them to ensure project success. This will require a comprehensive understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, and permitting processes.
  • Apply engineering principles and consult subject matter experts, as needed, to identify issues and drive solutions on projects.
  • Specify equipment for projects as required, including Transformers, Switchgear, protection solutions, etc.
  • Interface with internal (project managers, product engineers, sales team) and external stakeholders (utilities, AHJs, contractors, end customers) to ensure consistent communication.
  • Review project design documents including single line drawings, communication diagrams, layouts, equipment test reports, etc.
  • Plan and lead BESS project commissioning.
  • Provide constructive feedback to improve internal processes and products.

What a qualified candidate should possess

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (electrical or power system engineering) or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading project design, preferably in the building of large power stations or PV or other utility-scale power projects
  • 3+ years of BESS or PV project experience, preferred
  • PE certification or equivalent, preferred
  • Familiarity in permitting processes with local authorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 30%
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, rapid growth environments

Software and implementation plan must comply with Owner’s Specifications, meet internal Quality assurance standards, and provide concise product placement records - Have the ability to deal on a daily bases with project management, engineers, concrete supplier and concrete testing labs, steel and turbine manufactures concerning various site issues, inconsistencies and non-conformances - Direct and train skilled labor in various procedures - Capable of reading and understanding shop drawings, mix designs, geotechnical reports, turbine suppliers manuals, and engineered drawings - Knowledge of reinforcement and concrete placement, product testing, civil construction processes - Liaison with Client, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers and/or internal departments on quality related matters - Manage quality technicians during construction - And various duties as assigned by the Director of QualityRequirements:- A college degree or equivalent work experience in construction management or quality control - Minimum of 3-5 years in renewable energy, specifically solar energy - Must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without company sponsorship       - Must have high voltage experience in Solar, BESS or Substation
