Job purpose

· A Commissioning technician is an individual who is an expert in wind turbine erection and installation. A Commissioning technician is hired to provide services entailed with the commissioning process to bring the wind turbine initially online. A Commissioning technician is paid to use this specialized knowledge to troubleshoot, install software, and ensure the installation of our customer's product will perform as designed. The Commissioning technician will report to the Lead commissioner as well as share knowledge with other commissioners to maintain efficiency and safety for the teams.

Job Tasks

· Maintain and follow safety procedures as required by customer and/or company policy

· Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or system malfunctions

· Collect and compile reports from the field and present to site / project management

· Recommend course of action, to correct a deficiency or make an improvement

· Mentor and share knowledge within area of responsibility

· Keep records, maintain documentation and report as required by customer and/or company policy

· Participate in on-the- job or in class training as required

· Share Knowledge with the commissioning team to ensure that all can perform delegated tasks.

· Training and mentoring new and experienced personnel

· Collaborate with other technicians as well as back-office personnel to ensure that project milestones are being met.

· Serve as a stand-in Lead commissioner for periods when the permanent Lead is not Available.

Qualifications

· Education

o Grade 12 secondary school diploma

o Wind Turbine Technician diploma preferred

o Basic knowledge of computers including internet, Microsoft Word, Excel an asset

· Specialized knowledge

o Working knowledge of Siemens Gamesa wind turbines and the installation process preferred

· Skills

o Works well with others

o Strong communication skills

o Strong technical and mechanical skills

o Electrical/Mechanical/Hydraulic troubleshooting

o Able to effectively problem solve

o Good conflict management skills

o Able to work independently and with different teams

o Safety focused at all times

o Physically fit to perform required duties

· Abilities:

o Ability to analyze tasks and processes and recommend a specific task or corrective action

o Ability to advise people who don't report to you to change course of action

o Ability to climb to heights of 80 m and above

o Able to perform tasks under pressure in a timely manner while executing a high quality of work without compromising safety.

· Professional Certification preferred

o First Aid, Working at Heights, Rescue Training, WHMIS, Global Wind Organization Training, Siemens Gamesa Technical Training

o Siemens Gamesa WTG commissioning a plus

Working conditions

The role of the Commissioning technician is primarily performed outside on a wind turbine site in all weather conditions. The job is shift work and can regularly include evening and weekend work

with long working hours.

Physical requirements

The Commissioning technician must be physically fit to be able to climb wind turbine towers on a regular basis. Based on client safety regulations a Commissioning technician must weigh no more than 260lbs due to load restrictions in the wind turbine.
