Overview:
The Director of Engineering will provide leadership and support to sales and development teams through the analysis of candidate solar projects sites, system designs, energy modeling, project estimating and feasibility studies. As projects progress through the development process, the Director of Engineering will be required to complete more detailed engineering. The Director of Engineering will also be required to manage outside consultants, communicate with customers, and work with interconnecting utilities.

Responsibilities:

System Design and Engineering:
*Work with Sales and Development staff to quickly evaluate and support projects at various stages, from RFP responses and/or early stage development with many unknowns, to more advanced designs, and provide due diligence, technical guidance, system size, output, system design, interconnection, and appropriate technologies
*Act as the technical liaison with utility customers, project management and senior management on matters relating to development engineering progress, quality, scope and schedule
*Perform direct engineering and management of outside consultants to create engineering packages that meet the requirements of various approval agencies, planning boards, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
*Create or manage consultants in the creation of fully compliant interconnection applications for solar projects.
*Participate in scope development, project specifications, and component selection to ensure best-in-class solar system design packages
*Evaluate technology options, and seek out continuous system improvement opportunities
*Work with head of Engineering to build internal design capacity and leverage existing talent pool
*Project Estimating; suggest and create enhancements as business needs dictate
*Prioritize project design tasks to ensure deadlines are met in a quick-turnaround environment internal/external stakeholders needs are met
*Participate in Create operational improvement measures and Key Performance Indicators

Supplier and Consultant Partner development:
*Establish and foster key relationships with consultants and equipment suppliers
*Perform due diligence on products and suppliers, to include being a key decision maker on trade partners, supply deals, strategic alliances
*Participate directly in consultant, supplier and subcontractor on-boarding

Qualifications:
*Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering experience in the electric generation and distribution industry
*Expert knowledge with design of renewable energy systems, with preference for solar energy
*Proficient with solar energy modeling tools (PVSyst, SolarAnywhere), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite of products
*Familiar with solar technologies and related electrical equipment including vendor, products, technical specifications, utility and commercial standards, and applicable codes
*Strong organizational and scheduling skills to meet the short deadlines in support of sales and development staff
*Exhibited success with process development and implementation
*Ability to interface smoothly at senior management levels internally and externally

Education:
*Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with preference for Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
*EIT or FE preferred. PE a plus, or demonstrated ability to achieve PE.
*Travel: Periodic short term travel as project development needs dictate
