Key Responsibilities

Support the Onshore Substation Package Team during the execution of tas electrical engineer mainly focused on HV aspects, while support is also expected to auxiliary facilities of the onshore substation.

The individual will act as Senior Electrical Engineering within a team of engineers and project managers responsible for the implementation of the project Onshore Substation (OSP) Contract; supporting decision making on all activities from design changes, manufacturing through assembly and installation works until final hand over to operations team. Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for implementing robust and cost effective engineering strategies, plans, specifications, tendering, negotiating and managing OSP EPC Contract, complying with company and business engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied.

The individual will be working as part of the project execution team with activities in multiple locations across Europe and USA. The position will require travel to various locations within Europe and the USA and overseas with main focus in US.

The OSP Senior Electrical Engieer will provide the support to the Package Lead in the delivery of the package. The main responsibilities will be:

Key Tasks
  • Report to Electrical Design Manager
  • Report to OSP Package Manager.
  • Manage and resolve a range of technical/engineering issues within key packages on a day to day basis.
  • At short notice, act upon problems and ad-hoc projects without losing focus on major ongoing workload.
  • Ability to manage complex packages which require interface and precise coordination with multiple disciplines (structures, turbines, electrical cables, offshore substations, ports, vessels).
  • Ability to manage people at multiple international projects and sites.
  • Advise Electrical Design Manager Manager on the impact of technical/specialist risks and issues, and the viability of solutions recommended.
  • Balance technical detail with commercial needs and provide recommendations, taking into account all relevant risks.
  • Attend to the Progress Meetings.
  • Represent OSP package in technical meetings, such engineering project meetings.
  • Attend engineering meetings with the OSP EPC Contractor.
  • Organize and lead conference calls with suppliers to ensure their compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate technical Communication Notes exchanged with supplier.
  • Write and answer CN´s of a technical scope.
  • Coordinate and manage interfaces between OSP and other packages, such as OEP, connection to Eversource Barnstable Station / ETC.
  • Grid Code compliance.
  • Monitor OSP design modifications proposals, and prepare reports assessing its suitability for the Project.
  • Carry out documentation reviews of quality dossiers provided by the turbine supplier and produce technical memos justifying decisions.
  • Support the OSP Quality Manager in the evaluation of technical compliance at different quality gates (manufacturing, pre-assembly, installation and hand over) of the project.
  • Elaborate and review technical and contract documents and specifications.
  • Monitor progress of works with frequent inspections at suppliers according to the inspection and test plans (ITP).
  • Attend to the Final Acceptance Tests of the OSP components (FAT).
  • Review of non-conformities and evaluate proposed corrective actions.
  • Participate on some Walk downs.

Key Competencies / Qualifications / Criteria
  • Educated to Degree level in electrical engineering (preferred),other engineering degrees, or similar.
  • 5 years of wind industry experience (HV Electrical Equipment, offshore wind preferable).
  • Fluent in English
  • IT literate with the ability to operate MS Office systems and other IT based project management software.
  • Very flexible to travel around the US and overseas.
  • Extensive technical and practical knowledge of wind turbine technology (Electrical knowledge is required).
  • Experience in the area of Electrical and Grid Works related to offshore wind covering:
    • Generator and/or transmission system grid compliance process
    • Electrical system design studies
    • Wind farm and grid control and management systems
    • High voltage electrical plant, Transformers, STATCOMS, Reactors, Switchgear, Synchronous Condensers, etc.
    • Manufacturing and construction of onshore grid works for large generators or transmission works
    • Manufacturing and installation of offshore grid works for offshore wind (desirable)
  • Experience of offshore windfarm construction.
  • Good knowledge of industry standards and offshore regulations.
  • Knowledge of US and/or New England Grid Code regulations.
  • Experience of the operational performance of wind turbines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation associated with construction projects.
  • Project Management and related engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Safety trained for managing site construction works e.g. NEBOSH Training and experience (preferable).
