Field Operations Planner
Construction Management is seeking a dedicated professional who is highly motivated, resourceful and articulate to join the Planning Section as a Field Operations Planner. The successful candidate must have demonstrated a high work ethic, possess strong decision-making skills, ability to work independently, flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Must promote a positive work ethic in support of our Corporate Values and Mission, and be committed to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace. Must possess excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with personnel at all levels (inside and outside the Company).
An Associate degree in Engineering or technical area with a minimum of 5 years' experience in gas construction (civil street work) related activities is required. In lieu of a degree a HS/GED diploma with a minimum of 8 years of gas construction (civil street work) experience is required.
Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of gas construction (civil street work) work practices, contract specifications and procedures, scheduling, estimating methods and the ability to interpret relevant drawings and specifications. Candidate should have an understanding of electric construction (civil street work) in order to support other areas of Construction as needed.
The position requires excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Project. Bachelor's degree and 3 years construction/engineering experience working in Gas Operations is preferred. Knowledge of company systems such as ECS, IMS, Visions, Byers, ProjectWise, Work Manager and the Contract Administration & Trenching Manuals are also preferred.
The Field Operations Planner will ensure that safe work practices are followed and that the environment is fully protected in accordance with company policy and government regulations. Provide technical review of Gas and Electric layouts for constructability.
Conduct field visits and address conditions which could result in construction delays. Act as the direct point of contact with the Work and Resource Management group.
Identify and obtain any special permits required and other design submission to address bridges, railroad crossings, New York State Department of Transportation jurisdiction and environmental issues.
Determine the impact that work will have on communities to allow time for preparation of plans to reduce potential problems, and recommend alternatives to engineering.
Develop detailed schedules for construction and review them with Engineering, Operations and others.
Finalize schedules and review the key tasks with the inspection forces and others.
Assist with the resolution of field problems and communicate lessons learned.
Monitor progress of work and reports status at project meetings.
Support Construction Operations with tracking and achieving goals.
Establish an effective line of communication with senior management of organizations being served by the group's construction activities to ensure shared goals are met.
Act as a liaison for the Company with governmental agencies and community groups as needed. Comply with the company Equal Employment policies and instructions
Position requires a valid driver's license. Use of a personal vehicle to be used to travel to work locations within the company service territory is required. Reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through company mileage procedure. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to construction sites and electric, gas and steam facilities. May be required to work various schedules including weekends. Must be able to respond to emergencies and work in extreme hot and cold climates.
