Food/QA Technologist

The role:

To support delivery of company food standards and improvement targets, with accountability for unit compliance with customer standards & external accreditation specifications, process sheet and codes of practice requirements, supporting the Technical/Quality manager and team.

Main responsibilities:

* Ensure all customer, company and legislative specification and quality requirements are met
* Ensure all products used in the factory are approved to the relevant standards
* Work with colleagues to identify and effectively control food safety risks
* Assess the quality of products and factory processes in order to maintain the quality of products for the customer and to safeguard the reputation of the company
* Update and maintain technical policies and standards in accordance with legal and customer requirements
* Maintain professional status and accreditation of IFST or similar bodies through appropriate CPD
* Administer and report on the site Quality KPIs
* Process the customer complaints and support the complaints reduction programme
* Support Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) programme
* Help control the collation, reporting and corrective actions of held stock
* Support the delivery of Quality, Food Safety, Hygiene, Environment and Pest Control training to all levels of factory personnel
* Effectively resolve any issues with specification and non-conforming materials issues as well as isolations, corrective actions, root cause analysis and implementation of preventative measures
* Support the management of regulatory contact involving knowledge of food and trading standards legislation - completing external accreditation requirements including BRC, EHO trading standards
* Support team performance, efficiency and service levels and drive employee engagement
* Help develop enhanced and future fit employee skillset and flexibility
* Support trainee development to ensure the 'next generation' workforce
* Ensure all audit admin meets time and standards requirements leading on audit elements as required incl Presentations
* Adhere to all Code of Practice and Legislation requirements

Skills required:

* Educated to Degree level or equivalent in Food Technology or other similar discipline
* Attentive to detail with some strategic ability
* Excellent communication skills at all levels
* Experienced in food distribution
* Good facilitator and instructor
* Flexible, adaptable and keen to support others' development
* Accreditation Food Hygiene equivalent at minimum level 3
* Strong H&S understanding and compliance leadership
* Awareness of ETI Base Code/Sedex, BRC, and has proven record of and skillset for delivering ethical compliance
* Speaking, writing and understanding excellent spoken and written English language. (This is an essential health & safety, traceability, management and quality control requirement which will be tested as part of the recruitment process)
* Good numeracy skills
