The Client
Our client is a leading, multi-national, multi-discipline Engineering Consultancy with offices across Australia and Asia. Their disciplines are Structural, Civil, Traffic and Facades. They are seeking an experienced Lead Structural Engineer to head up the division and contribute to the ongoing growth of the company.
The role
  • To manage a variety of activities, including, but not limited to, fees, revenue and profit generation, and achievement of working capital targets.
  • Manage a team of between 5-20 employees

Main Activities
  • Acts as Lead Structural Engineer, in charge on projects including assuming responsibility for management and profitability of multiple, complex, large scale projects, including duties such as pricing, tender submissions, technical documentation, project scheduling and monitoring progress, resource forecasting, establishing and monitoring of hours, meeting deadlines and budgets with minimal reference to a Director;
  • Build and maintain relationships with new and existing clients;
  • Work proactively to increase the client portfolio of the business and engage in networking and team building events with client list;
  • General superintendence of work within the office facilitating compliance with engineering and drafting standards and implementation of the clients QA system.
  • Full responsibility for administrative tasks: programming and scheduling of staff resources, four-monthly staffing and billing projections
  • Display and apply a thorough understanding of engineering principles and be able to mentor and develop less senior staff members
  • Assists in the development and implementation of clients business plans
  • Responsible for management and training of staff including recruitment, selection and remuneration, performance management and reviews
  • Manages technical and contractual aspects of projects to ensure technical requirements are met and performed within the bounds of company policies and procedures;
  • Proposes introduction of state-of-the-art technical procedures, design aids, and improved management and administrative procedures
  • Monitors interaction of disciplines and provides specialist knowledge where required
  • Represents the company as a Lead Structural Engineer at industry functions and actively participates in industry associations
  • Preparation of technical papers aimed at promoting the work of the company and any other tasks as reasonably requested by a Director.

Key Skills / Experience
  • Strong background in structural engineering; nominally 10+ years experience;
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability
  • Sound technical knowledge and industry awareness
  • Proven project management skills
  • Demonstrated project management skills to deliver on time, on budget and to client requirements
  • High level consulting and client management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Business budgeting, planning and strong commercial acumen.

Qualifications + Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • Membership with Engineers Australia (required)
  • CPEng / NER (mandatory)
  • Involvement in external associations / committees
