One of the world's leading providers of diesel and gas engines are currently seeking for a Mechatronics Principle Engineer / Technical Specialist to set standards of engineering excellence, providing the most comprehensive range of innovative and reliable power solutions, tailored to meet the precise requirements of our customers. A unique and exciting opportunity to fulfil a senior and influential role to define the engine and after treatment control strategies across a wide range of next generation platforms currently in or starting development. The role is a critical and revered position within the Performance Systems team, a dynamic, exciting team which develops all aspects of real world engine performance from conceptual design to troubleshooting production issues. The candidate will have the primary objective to lead and participate in cross functional teams to generate hardware and software/control specifications to ensure the superior performance, durability, quality, service ability and emissions compliance of our products. A suitable candidate must have a high-level holistic view of a complex engine and after treatment systems and accordingly devise detailed performance trade-off studies both in simulation and test. Experience in control strategy development and dynamic system modelling is also essential.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Liaise with all functional groups to generate performance specs and devise analyses to deliver engine architecture and controls solutions.
Define analysis work packages for team members to enable actuators, sensors and controls strategies selection.
Lead the development of simulation models to improve technical capabilities of the team.
Develop engine architecture cost and performance trade-offs for senior management review.
Provide technical support, coaching and development to team members.
Provide innovative control strategy product solutions, implement new sensor technology and simulation processes to remain at the cutting edge of off-highway powertrain development.
Bachelors or Master's degree in an accredited Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic, or Control and Systems Engineering degree plus significant experience of engineering experience. A relevant doctorate degree in engineering plus sufficient industrial engineering experience will be considered.
Self-starter with the ability work with high level instruction, minimal detail breakdown and to be able to seek out relevant information, data and support from other engineering groups.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in mechanical systems and statistical modelling in Matlab and Simulink.
Experience of complex control strategy definition.
Experience of leading a team or direct supervisory experience.
Good base knowledge mathematics, data analysis, numerical modelling and statistics.
Extensive understanding of control algorithms and logic.
Good base knowledge of internal combustion engines.
Experience of simulation modelling using GT Power, AVL Boost, Ricardo Wave, Caterpillar Dynasty or equivalent 1-D modelling tools.
Experience of controls creation in Matlab Simulink, inc Stateflow and autocode.
Experience of machine / application operation, performance or controls.
Experience of working directly with customers and senior management.
6 sigma experience (Black belt preferable, Green Belt minimum).
Experience of software validation, preferably including SiL, HiL, test and field trials.
FMEA, DVP&R, Product risk assessment experie
