Mid-Level Transmission Line Engineer (REMOTE)
Company is seeking a Mid-Level Transmission Line Engineer for our Power Delivery Line Department. This position includes the ability to work remotely from a mutually agreed upon location in the Pacific time zone.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, supporting, and coordinating the following:
- Project Support
- Lead and/or support the initial project execution layout to ensure an efficient and effective project plan has been established
- Manage engineers, drafters, and designers on small to medium-sized engineering projects and interface directly with the client
- Responsible for creating and maintaining a project schedule and budget
- Conduct weekly or bi-weekly project meetings to clearly outline upcoming deliverables and tasks with responsible personnel identified
- Coordinate with clients on project status and support project meetings as necessary
- Maintain project workflow and thorough communication across multi-discipline projects, both internal and external to POWER
- Forecast upcoming project requirements to assist in resource planning
- Facilitate and adhere to POWER's QA/QC procedure to ensure the correct personnel is performing the required QA/QC review
- Participate in industry conferences, both internal and external, to improve profession growth while fostering knowledge transfer to colleagues
- Develop Transmission Line design knowledge pertaining to PLS-CADD, structure staking, foundations, assembly drawings, steel pole performance loading, material procurement, construction specification, and construction support

- Provide weekly or bi-weekly project updates and project forecasting
- Lead and/or support PM by meeting with clients, both in-person and remotely

Role: In this role you will be working closely alongside the grid manager, and if required the key management team members and land acquisition team. Supporting the Grid team in identifying and securing grid capacity both on the distribution level and national transmission level from 11kV up to 400kV network for its large-scale solar, wind and BESS projects. You will regularly communicate and liaise with the relevant DNOs and NGESO to gather all necessary intelligence to successfully source and secure grid capacity for prospective projects.The ideal candidate must have experience in power systems analysis, excellent communication skills and experience of liaising with external stakeholders such as network operators and specialist grid consultants.Furthermore, you will be actively manging relevant grid aspects of the business, building and maintaining relationships with the DNOs & NG throughout the entire development and construction process. Additionally, you will be supporting the planning team and if necessary, the legal team on any grid connection related matters to ensure that the permits and legal documentation are fully aligned with the grid requirements. Responsibilities:• Identify and qualify grid capacity that are suitable for PV, Wind and BESS by undertaking the desktop power system analysis.• Originate, submit, and managed the process of transmission and distribution connection applications. • Gathering intelligence and analysing the existing and future electricity network available data bases at transmission and distribution level to provide input into the location and electrical characteristics of new solar/wind developments:• Engagement with NGESO and DNOs on pre-app meetings and budget offers to glean market-leading intelligence on the availability of connections any upcoming developments (short-, mid-, and long-term)• Completing the ENA's G99 application form for developments connected to the distribution network.• Generating SLDs using the Auto Cad and analysing the thirds party technical drawing.• Reviewing grid connection offers and advise the Management team on summarising costs, scope of work and technical aspects of the offer.• Undertaking detailed cost analysis of the grid connection costs and implementing strategies to reduce and optimise the costs for connection.• Manage project pipeline by communicating with DNOs / NGESO/ ICPs as necessary to track progress with development.• Liaising with developers and TOs/DNOs to understand the status and delivery programs and meet the milestones for grid connections.• Working with NGESO’s connection portal, completing the application forms including DRC for specific transmission network opportunities. Special Requirements: • 3-4 years in a technical role working electricity projects, including submission of grid connection applications at distribution or transmission level.• Electrical engineering background preferred (you may have a postgraduate degree in a relevant topic) with experience in a technical environment.• Working knowledge of the Grid Code /ENA G99 is important.• Experience with DIgSILENT Power Factory.• Ideally working experience in Solar and wind projects.• BESS experience is preferred, but not necessarily required.

Under general supervision of the Section Manager of Transmission & Substation Engineering, accomplishes dynamic civil and structural engineering contribution requiring design, engineering and project management skills, as well as significant individual intuition. The scope of responsibilities involves the design and application of utility grade overhead transmission systems and electric substations for the Company. The Senior Engineer shall also provide unprecedented participation and representation for the Company at industry meetings.Serve as Project Civil Engineer for Overhead Transmission or Substation Projects. Prepare material, equipment and construction labor specifications for overhead transmission and substation civil construction projects.• Provides exceptional support to Section Manager.• Employ transmission and structural engineering design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, RISA-3D, RISA-Foot, Civil Bay, EPRI’s FAD, HEC-RAS and online USGS Streamstats.• Understand and implements civil engineering site development practices such as site planning, grading, excavation, drainage, roadways as related to substations facilities, overhead transmission facilities and right-of-ways.• Maximize diagnostic tool application such as MS Project, as well as other financial and project management tools used by Transmission & Substation Engineering to effectually oversee construction projects.• Avidly review, analyze and prepares layouts and preliminary designs for each project to determine best practices and designs.• Achieve preliminary engineering cost estimating and creatively develop project design alternatives as necessary.• Serve as Project Engineer for all assigned overhead transmission and substation engineering projects while managing lower level engineers, consultants and contractors. Work closely with manufacturers, contractors, and suppliers relative to their proposals, project performance, specification of materials, and processing of invoices for payment in accordance with their performance under contract.• Assist the EHV (Extra high Voltage) Line Operations and Substation Operations Departments by reviewing and/or proposing designs for maintenance projects.• Work with EHV personnel to analyze overhead transmission system problems, assist in system testing, and develop feasibility studies and required solutions to solve system problems as they arise.• Collaborate alongside the Real Estate Department, New Business and Community Affairs in reviewing right-of-way encroachments.• Formulate sketches to be used as the design guide for the Design Drafters in the preparation of standards and project construction drawings.• Provide departmental updates on the current status and progress of projects, including the update of the Living Budget.• Keeps informed and up to date of the latest industry standards and developments in the overhead transmission engineering and construction field.• Attends departmental meetings and serves on committees as required.• May be required to supervise civil engineers for all transmission and substation civil engineering projects assigned and coordinate internal and external resources for interdepartmental projects.• Participate in the Company’s Emergency Response Plan through a designated storm assignment.• Performs other related assignments as required.
