The purpose of this role is to ensure the normal operation of the Oracle database infrastructure through provision of proactive and reactive technical support, to provide specialised advice or consultancy on Oracle database infrastructure related matters.

 Accountable for the technical support and consultancy to the database infrastructure, this includes (but is not limited to):

o Oracle, Microsoft SQL, MySql & PostgreSQL databases and related infrastructure
o Exposure to clustered databases e.g. RAC, VCS, IBM HACMP
o Strong knowledge of Dataguard, RMAN, Grid Control
o Oracle EBS infrastructure support.
o Experience of supporting databases running on AIX, Redhat and Windows platforms

 Provide specialised consultancy to other areas of the business on database related technologies
 Develop an excellent level of understanding of the business's IT infrastructure
 Participate in the out-of- hours technical support rota
 Identify and take ownership of initiatives to improve the database infrastructure
 To represent IT as a subject matter expert for database related technologies across the business
 Identify opportunities within the database infrastructure for improvement
 Ensure the effective resolution of related incidents and service requests
 Participate and manage tasks and initiatives as defined by the Server and Database Manager
 Constructively contribute to continuous improvement within the IT Division
 Support on going patch management of Oracle Databases.
 Assist in the production of High and Low Level Design through to sign off and delivery.
 Document detailed plans for the delivery of technical platforms, non functional testing and the results

Key skills:
- Technical Support or IT Infrastructure background
- Exceptional working knowledge of Oracle databases (9i, 10g, 11g) infrastructure
- Good working knowledge of SQL Databases (2005 & 2008)
- Good working knowledge of Unix and Windows related infrastructure, this includes but is not limited to:

 UNIX operating systems (Redhat Linux , AIX)
 Windows (Server 2003, 2008)

- Exceptional understanding of Oracle related industry initiatives
- Excellent understanding of industry related initiatives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent planning, prioritisation and delivery skills
- Excellent planning and report writing skills
- Subject matter expert for Oracle technologies and ability to provide consultancy to all levels in an organisation
- Ability to work in a busy, fast moving environment
- Willing to undertake travel throughout the UK with the possibility of overnight stays away from home for short periods of time. Must hold a current driving licence
- Good VMware vSphere5 knowledge
- Experience in design architecture and documentation
- Understanding of project management methodology
