Mechanical Engineer III-Pipeline Engineer III

Position Purpose
Provide engineering services for the design of onshore crude and natural gas pipeline systems and the development of pipeline engineering deliverables.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for design of pipeline and pipeline facilities, flow modeling calculations, specifications, planning studies, maps, project schedule, project estimating, drawing reviews and budgets
  • Responsible for preparing and reviewing pipeline drawing packages, including, but not limited to P&IDs, Alignment Sheets, As-Built Sheets, Isometric Drawings, BOMs
  • Review for Quality Assurance and Quality Control and ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Responsible for contracts, scope of services, and budgets
  • Provide coordination of contractors
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings with stakeholders and clients
  • Instruct, train and mentor group members
  • Effectively deal with difficult situations and confrontation both internally and externally
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication


  • Assists in managing project changes
  • Assists in project set-up
  • Assists in planning and scheduling project timelines
  • Assists in defining project tasks and resource requirements
  • Assists in developing full scale project plans
  • May respond to RFPs and lead interviews
  • May prepare forecast of workload and monitor backlog
  • Assists in defining project scopes, goals and deliverables
  • May market to existing or potential clients and obtain work
  • May serve as a project engineer, project manager, or client manager and provide overall project oversight
  • Public involvement may include reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material


  • A four-year degree in mechanical, civil or petroleum engineering
  • A PE is required
  • Must be proficient in pipeline modeling software such as AFT or SynerGEE, Winflow and HYSYS and GasWorks.
  • Must be familiar with the production of design and construction documents including alignment sheets, As-Built Sheets, P&ID drawings, equipment data sheets, and specifications.
  • Requires high level of knowledge and experience working with pipeline design codes and safety requirements including ASME B31.4 & B31.8 as well as 49 CFR Parts 192 & 195.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate motorized vehicles


  • Previous experience with Autodesk products
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas, Refinery, or Chemical Industry field is preferred.
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas, Refinery, or Chemical Industry field is preferred.
  • Previous consulting experience


  • Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology needed to perform or direct duties generally acquired and developed through formal education, extensive training, and relevant experience.
  • Work involves varied duties that encompass a broad range of activities by applying knowledge and experience to resolve known problems with unknown solutions.

The Engineer III receives general supervision from the Practice Area Leader (PAL). Supervisory responsibilities include group and support staff members.

  • The position plans and implements work assignments in accordance with guidelines, previous training, or accepted practice as a PE.

Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week with 80% of the time spent in the office and 20% in the field.
