Title: Senior Associate Project Finance

Location: Houston

Reports to: VP Project Finance

Travel Time: up to 50% of the time



  • Take the lead for negotiating and executing project financing for the company's project development pipeline including the solicitation, negotiation, documentation and closing of relevant financing structures under the supervision of his/her reporting line.
  • Provide project finance input into the corporate development and M&A process by assisting with the analysis of acquisition opportunities where project financing or refinancing is a factor.
  • Own all aspects of assigned transactions, including interfacing with and managing external financial services firms, lawyers and consultants.
  • Lead cross functional internal teams to provide analysis, approvals and deal support.
  • Maintain a current understanding of the landscape and current trends of relevant financial markets including project finance structuring, non-recourse debt, project equity and hedging.
  • Collaborate with other financial and corporate development executives to manage relationships with banks, particularly those active in the project finance domain.
  • Analyse the current financing structures across the company's portfolio and find opportunities for value creation or risk mitigation through refinancing.
  • Liaise effectively with company Treasury executives to contribute to the process of ensuring compliance with the Group's financial framework.
  • Advise colleagues and joint venture partners effectively on the arrangement and structuring of corporate or limited recourse debt as well as on the associated structuring of commercial arrangements.
  • Provide transparency to colleagues on the requirements and consequences of project financing as well as understanding environmental and social impact policies, including the standards of different lenders.
  • Develop innovative project financing structures that become a competitive advantage for the company when bidding for new projects and acquisitions
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all internal and relevant Government/Regulator requirements and regulations.
  • Ensure that the current development portfolio is supported and enabled by the closure of effective project finance.
  • Reduce the cost of debt across the portfolio by finding opportunities for refinancing.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the business, assets, strategy and strategic plan in conjunction with other company executives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with investment banks and other sources of transactions to provide access to deal flow.
  • Pro-actively identify companies, groups of assets or individual assets that would meet company investment criteria and explore potential transactions, creating win/win situations with the current asset owners.
  • Provide expertise and consultation to colleagues on all matters of M&A, proactively identifying ways in which the company strategy could be enhanced or accelerated through effective M&A.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master degree in Business Administration or Finance
  • 7+ years of experience in Project Finance or Corporate Finance acquired in Investment Banking or in the Financing Department of Power Company
  • Experience in the energy / power sector is a must
