Software Engineer - R&D
A global leader in the development and commercialisation of advanced 3D analysis technology is looking for a Software Engineer to join their Newcastle based R&D team.
You will be part of the group delivering new commercial software features within a technology development process that brings in requirements and knowledge from R&D activities (geosciences, sales teams and users).
Translation of these requirements and materials into high quality commercial software features is the primary purpose of this role. You will play a key part in working with the R&D and Development teams to integrate prototypes into their products.
*To produce high quality software products to match customer requirements.
*To design and implement new product features from initial proof of concept.
*Identifies and progresses improvements in product quality, systems or processes.
*Proactively contributes to the capability of the team through effective knowledge transfer and coaching and mentors new team members.
*To advocate good software engineering practices and continuous development.
*Identify new technologies and development tools that can be used to improve products and the development process.
*Strives for technical excellence within the commercial considerations of the business.
Qualifications & Experience
*Appropriate qualifications and/or experiences in a Software Engineering discipline.
*At least 4 years commercial C++ development experience.
*Strong software engineering skills with knowledge of modern development principles and best practice.
* Strong mathematical skills and an interest in solving mathematical problems.
*Experience of different and varied APIs.
*Experience of developing end user desktop applications.
*Used to troubleshooting challenging software issues, including in unfamiliar code.
*Track record in learning new idioms, patterns and technologies.
*Ideally have worked in a scientific software environment involved in delivering research activities to achieve commercial objectives.
*Experience of agile development environments, including pair programming.
*Test driven development.
*User interface design.
*Experience in development of scientific or computational software.
