The Structural Engineer and Special Inspection Manager is responsible for supervising structural engineering design activities. The Structural Engineer will manage structural engineering of facility projects, including but not limited to inspections, assessments, designs and quality control. Projects include Class A commercial and residential high rise buildings, transit, bus, port, aviation, and industrial facilities. Other duties include managing the full lifecycle (proposal-initiation-execution/control-closeout) of structural engineering design projects, managing client relationships and quality control. This includes managing activities related to project scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, resources, procurement, and risk elements required to optimize client service, quality, and fiscal responsibility.
This engineering firm maintains a highly active and rapidly growing Special Inspection business in New York City, with an administration and inspection staff of five (5) employees. This position will be responsible for managing the Special Inspection practice and supervising the performance of special inspections on New York City construction projects; such as mid to high rise buildings, commercial, public, academic, and healthcare facilities. Candidate will be required to monitor the preparation of reports on inspection activities, file documentation and complete required Technical Report forms in accordance with New York City Building Codes. The candidate will be responsible for supervising Special Teams, including review of technical performance, scheduling of inspection activities and client relations. Candidate will assist in the preparation of proposals and other business development activities.
Ideal candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and be a registered PE in New York; Master's degree is preferred. Candidate should have a minimum of 8 years of experience in infrastructure/facility/building design and construction. Candidate should have demonstrated working knowledge of NYC Building Code along with experience with quality control processes for structural materials (concrete, steel, masonry, timber). Experience as a Project Manager on facility design/construction programs with construction value up to $15M, including conceptual programming, permitting, design and construction management is desired. Candidate should have the following certifications and/or be able to obtain them within three months of hire; ICC Structural Steel and Bolting; ICC Structural Welding and/or AWS-CWI.
Knowledge of project management procedures (PMI), financial management, CPM scheduling, cost control and forecasting, communications and document control is required. Candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office products and have the ability to become competent with the latest Project Management software and reporting systems. #LI-ST1
