Malaysia’s Petronas and a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell have signed an agreement to explore opportunities in carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the region.

As part of the joint study and collaboration agreement they will explore the decarbonisation of Shell's local and cross-border facilities, with the hope that this will lead to further collaborations in other areas.

The partnership forms part of Petronas’ plans to transition towards lower carbon energy sourcesin its pursuit of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Adif Zulkifli, Petronas' Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Upstream said, "This is one of the many efforts to position and establish Malaysia as a leading CCS solutions hub in the region.”
