BESS Sales Director (Japan)

A leading global clean energy technology organisation is seeking a commercially driven Sales Director to lead the growth of its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) business across Japan.

 

This is a strategic leadership role focused on driving market expansion, developing key customer relationships, and leading commercial activities across utility-scale and commercial & industrial energy storage projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial growth strategy for the BESS business across Japan
  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within utility-scale and C&I energy storage markets
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, utilities, EPCs, investors, and strategic partners
  • Lead commercial negotiations, contract discussions, and project structuring activities
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies aligned with regional business objectives
  • Collaborate closely with technical, engineering, product, and project delivery teams to support successful project execution
  • Monitor market trends, policy developments, and competitive activity within Japan’s energy storage sector
  • Support tender submissions, commercial proposals, and customer presentations
  • Drive revenue growth and market penetration while ensuring strong commercial governance
  • Represent the business at industry events, conferences, and customer engagements across Japan

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Energy, or a related discipline
  • Commercial leadership experience within the renewable energy or energy storage sector
  • Strong understanding of the Japan energy market, particularly BESS and grid-scale energy infrastructure
  • Track record of developing and closing high-value BESS projects in Japan
  • Existing network across developers, utilities, EPCs, or renewable energy stakeholders in Japan
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and business development capabilities
  • Ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced, international environment
  • Fluent in Japanese and business-level English communication skills
  • Experience working within cross-functional and multicultural teams preferred
