Job Opportunity: Commissioning Manager – High Voltage & Data Centre Systems

Location: Cyberjaya, Selangor
Contract Duration: 12-month contract - renewable

About the Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities for high-voltage (HV) substation systems and data centre electrical infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure safe, reliable, and compliant energization of installations, overseeing all aspects of planning, execution, testing, documentation, and customer acceptance for both utility-grade HV and mission-critical data centre systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the energization of HV substations and data centre electrical systems with a commitment to zero safety incidents.
• Develop and implement commissioning strategies, schedules, and resource plans for grid and data centre environments.
• Manage multidisciplinary commissioning teams, ensuring alignment with project milestones.
• Oversee testing and commissioning of GIS/AIS, transformers, HV switchgear, protection & control systems, SCADA, and grid communication interfaces.
• Lead the commissioning of MV/HV systems serving data centres, including UPS, static transfer switches (STS), switchgear, battery systems, and power monitoring systems.
• Ensure system integration, redundancy, failover, and resilience, validating Tier-level compliance and executing Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Maintain accurate, audit-ready commissioning documentation (ITPs, test sheets, checklists, IST scripts).
• Identify and resolve technical issues, non-conformities, and deviations during commissioning phases.
• Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and customer acceptance processes.
• Implement high-voltage safety protocols, LOTO procedures, and data centre safety practices.
• Conduct risk assessments for energization, load transfer, and integrated testing.
• Coordinate with engineering, project management, QA/QC, suppliers, subcontractors, and operators.
• Lead customer witness testing, IST sessions, and acceptance processes, providing clear communication on progress and technical resolutions.
• Maintain detailed commissioning logs, test reports, punch lists, and energization records.
• Ensure timely closure of commissioning actions and project deliverables.

Technical Competencies

• Expertise in High Voltage Systems: GIS/AIS, transformers, switchgear, protection & control.
• Knowledge of data centre electrical systems: UPS, generators, MV/HV distribution, STS, battery systems.
• Hands-on commissioning and testing experience, including relay configuration and IST execution.
• Strong understanding of protection & control systems, root-cause analysis, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with IEC standards, Uptime Institute Tier requirements, and quality management systems.
• Proven ability to prepare technical documentation, including test reports and commissioning plans.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in HV substation commissioning (GIS/AIS).
• 3–5 years’ experience in data centre electrical commissioning (hyperscale or enterprise).
• Strong knowledge of protection relays, SCADA, PMS/BMS, and IST processes.
• Experience with EPC, OEM, utility, or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, IEC standards, and Uptime Institute Tier requirements.
• Demonstrated leadership and troubleshooting capabilities.
