Job Description
As a Systems Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for developing electrical system designs for motors, generators, electrical drives and switchboards for marine and power-generation applications. You will be involved at all stages of the system design process, from concept through to delivery of equipment and systems. You will work with project managers, technical leads, power systems teams and power electronics teams to deliver projects in accordance with customer requirements.
In this role you will focus on:
Integrating electrical systems to meet customer requirements.
Defining the overall electrical and control architecture and developing the Functional Design Specification (FDS) for the complete electrical system.
Defining requirements for all electrical components.
Developing and managing the Interface Control Document (ICD), documenting electrical and logical connections between controllers, power electronics and mechanical subsystems.
Providing the technical system overview to CAD and mechanical engineering teams for system layouts and connection diagrams.
Configuring and commissioning controller software.
Developing Test & Validation Plans, analysing performance data and verifying system behaviour.
Acting as a principal point of contact for the electrical design aspects of project execution, providing guidance to engineering teams on design requirements.
Supporting equipment manufacturing, procurement of electrical parts and assemblies, and resolution of quality issues with suppliers.
Participating in factory acceptance testing and supporting the timely resolution of customer issues and identification of root causes.
Ensuring Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles are incorporated into the design process.
Participating in technical design reviews, supporting problem resolution and ensuring designs incorporate good engineering practice.
We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:
Eligibility to meet the nationality and security requirements associated with the role, including the ability to obtain the required UK security clearance.
Possession of, or eligibility to obtain, SC-level security clearance.
Proven ability to define system-level requirements and communicate technical requirements to electrical and mechanical design teams.
A relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering, or significant experience in an electrical design engineering environment.
Good technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, electrical circuit design and testing procedures.
An understanding of design challenges associated with high-voltage applications (HV: 1 kV AC / 1.5 kV DC).
Strong engineering, communication and organisational skills.
What will make you stand out:
Experience with real-time target machines and MATLAB/Simulink.
Experience in project management or project planning.
Prior experience with active magnetic bearings.
